UFC On Versus 6 Event Identified, Brenneman vs. Johnson & Danzig vs. Wiman Announced

Charlie BrennemanUFC matchmakers remained busy on Saturday evening with the announcement of two bouts for a newly identified Ultimate Fighting Championship event.
UFC on Versus 6 was identified as the event that will host a welterweight matchup between Charlie ‘The Spaniard’ Brenneman (14-2) vs. Anthony ‘Rumble’ Johnson (9-3) and a re-scheduled lightweight meeting featuring Mac Danzig (20-8-1) vs. ‘Handsome’ Matt Wiman (13-6).
UFC officials made the announcement on Saturday evening at UFC.com. Both bouts are expected to take place on the live Versus broadcast.
Coming off of his amazing late-notice victory over highly regarded Rick Story, Charlie “The Spaniard” Brenneman has verbally agreed to face one of the most powerful men in the welterweight division, Anthony “Rumble” Johnson. The bout will occur at this fall’s UFC on Versus 6 event – the date and location will be announced in the coming weeks.
Brenneman was originally on the June 26 UFC Live undercard and bumped to the co-main event on one day’s notice when Nate Marquardt was unable to compete. He then fought and beat Story, who had been brought in weeks before to replace Johnson, the original headliner.
Plus, in a rematch of their controversial fight from UFC 115, Ultimate Fighter winner Mac Danzig and “Handsome” Matt Wiman have agreed to fight on that same card, UFC president Dana White confirmed today.
The lightweights’ first outing ended prematurely after the referee mistakenly thought Danzig had been rendered unconscious by a choke and halted the bout. The rematch was originally set for last fall, but both men were forced to pull out due to injuries.
No official word on where or when the event will take place, but Heavy.com is reporting that the UFC is targeting October 1 in Washington, D.C. for the event.
Brenneman is 3-1 in the UFC, having earned a win over Rick Story last June after replacing Marquardt at the very last minute. Previous to that he earned a decision over Amilcar Alves at Fight for the Troops 2 and was stopped by Johny Hendricks by TKO at UFC 117.
Johnson had his last fight in March, earning a unanimous decision over Dan Hardy after a year-and-a-half layoff. He had been scheduled to face Marquardt at the UFC on Versus 4 card, but suffered an injury and was replaced by Story.
Danzig is 2-1 in his last three, having knocked out Joe Stevenson at UFC 124 last December. He had been scheduled to face Donald Cerrone in June at UFC 131 but withdrew due to a chest injury.
Wiman lost a unanimous decision to Dennis Siver earlier this month at UFC 132, ending a three fight win streak for ‘Handsome’. His last win was a decision over Cole Miller lat January at the Fight for the Troops 2 event.
