Brandon Vera vs. Eliot Marshall Added To UFC 137

Brandon VeraOne might expect the number of bout announcements to slow down, but UFC officials are keeping pace with the addition of a light heavyweight bout for October’s UFC 137 event.
Making his return to the UFC, after briefly being cut, will be Brandon ‘The Truth’ Vera (11-5) who is scheduled to face Eliot ‘The Fire’ Marshall (10-3) in a bout that will likely mean the dismissal of one fighter from the UFC.
The announcement was made late Saturday night at UFC.com as well as the addition of the Dennis Siver vs. Sam Stout bout.
Also at UFC 137, a light heavyweight matchup has been verbally agreed to as Eliot “The Fire” Marshall will welcome Brandon “The Truth” Vera back to the Octagon.
UFC 137: St-Pierre vs. Diaz is expected to take place on October 29 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. Five other bouts have already been announced for the event, including the headliner, a UFC welterweight title bout between champ Georges St-Pierre vs. former Strikeforce champ Nick Diaz.
Vera had been released from the UFC after his third straight loss last January at UFC 125. The defeat came at the hands of Thiago Silva, however following a drug test for the event it was revealed that Silva had used fake urine and was subsequently suspended. The result of the UFC 125 bout was changed to a “No Contest” and ‘The Truth’ was brought back to the UFC.
Vera is 0-2 (1NC) in his last three fights, and is 2-2 (1NC) in his last five. He was stopped by Jon Jones at UFC on Versus 1 in March of 2010, and lost a unanimous decision to Randy Couture at UFC 105.
Marshall made his return to the UFC last March after a three bout absence replacing an injured Karlos Vemola at UFC 128. Unfortunately for ‘The Fire’, it wasn’t the return he was looking for as Luiz Cane stopped him in the first round by TKO. Marshall was released from the UFC after a split decision loss to Vladimir Matyushenko at the UFC on Versus 1 event, but managed to win three straight with various promotions to fight his way back into the UFC. His overall Octagon record stands at 3-2.
