Davis suffered a knee injury in training while preparing for a main event bout with Rashad Evans on Aug. 6 in Philadelphia.
Despite the injury, ‘Mr. Wonderful’ still wanted to compete but it was UFC President Dana White who had the final say and pulled the 26-year-old fighter from the card.
In a recent interview with ESPN.com, Davis says he doesn’t like to back down from fights but he feels that White “made a good call.”
“I wanted to fight, but I think Dana White has had more experience with my personality-type. I think he made a good call.Currently Davis is relaxing and performing rehab for his knee, noting that he’ll be back training later this week. Fans will have to wait to see the young wrestler back in the Octagon but that wait may not be too long.
“But being the person I am, I don’t like to back out. I don’t think it’s a defeat necessary, but somehow it feels like a loss. There’s no saying ‘uncle’… ”
“I have so many friends and family in the area,” said Davis, a Harrisburg, Penn., native and former wrestling standout at Penn State University. “I wanted to perform in front of everybody in Philly, being close to home. That’s a huge part of my disappointment.
“As time goes by I will be OK with [not competing at UFC 133]. It’s going to be a little bittersweet seeing how great the show is going to be. But that’s part of the game.”
