Meeting will be veteran Joey ‘The Mexicutioner’ Beltran (13-5), who welcomes undefeated newcomer Stipe Miocic (6-0) to the promotion.
The announcement was made by the promotion at UFC.com Wednesday.
Following his impressive third round TKO of Aaron Rosa at UFC 131 in June, “The Mexicutioner,” Joey Beltran, will look to spoil the debut of another newcomer, as he has agreed to face off against unbeaten prospect Stipe Miocic in UFC 136 action in Houston on October 8th.UFC 136: Edgar vs. Maynard 3 is expected to take place on October 8 at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. The event will feature two title bouts as lightweight champ Frankie Edgar defends his title against Gray Maynard, and featherweight champ Jose Aldo meets Kenny Florian on the card.
Miocic comes to the UFC with a 6-0 record that includes five knockouts and one submission. A former Division I wrestler for Cleveland State and a Golden Gloves champ, Miocic will be put to the test by the heavy hands, granite chin, and relentless pressure of Beltran, who is 3-2 in his UFC stint thus far.
Beltran earned a win last June, stopping Aaron Rosay by third round TKO at UFC 131 in Vancouver, B.C. The win erased a two fight losing skid which saw ‘The Mexicutioner’ drop bouts against Pat Barry at Fight For The Troops 2 and to Matt Mitrione at UFC 119. Beltran’s overall UFC record stands at 3-2 with wins over Tim Hague and Rolles Gracie in his two other previous appearances.
Miocic joins the promotion after earning six straight wins and most recently winning the NAAFS heavyweight title last month. The former NCAA Division I wrestler has stopped all of his opponents five by (T)KO and one by verbal submission to leg kicks, having never fought past the second round.
