News of a featherweight bout was reported for the recently announced UFC 138 event on Thursday morning by FightersOnlyMagazine.co.uk. Meeting on the November card will be Japanese fighter Michihiro Omigawa (12-10-1) and British Muay Thai striker Jason “Shotgun” Young (8-4).
UFC 138 is scheduled to take place on November 5 at the LG Arena in Birmingham, England. The main event features a middleweight bout between Chris Leben vs. Mark Munoz and will mark the first non-title five-round bout in the history of the promotion.
Omigawa is coming off a controversial unanimous decision loss to Darren Elkins at UFC 131 last June, in a bout that many had scored closer to a split decision. UFC President Dana White noted after the bout on Twitter that Omigawa would be paid his win bonus despite the loss. The Japanese fighter debuted with the UFC back in February of this year, losing a decision to Chad Mendes at UFC 126 in Las Vegas. Previous to that Omigawa had won five straight with various Japanese promotions.
Young also fought in Vancouver, B.C. last month, making his UFC debut against Dustin Poirier. The fight would go three rounds, with ‘Shotgun’ losing a unanimous decision at the UFC 131 event. Previous to that loss Young had won two straight and was 4-1 at the time. So far in his pro career he’s stopped three opponents by (T)KO, one by submission, and earned four decision victories.
