UFC Fight Night: Shields vs. Ellenberger (aka UFC Fight Night 25 or UFC: Battle on the Bayou) is set to go down on Sept. 17 at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, Louisiana. Fight Night events have been scheduled to air on Spike TV in the past, so fans should fully expect to see the evenings main card on the television station.
Shields is coming off a loss to Georges St-Pierre for the UFC welterweight title last April in the headliner for UFC 129 in Toronto, Canada. It was the first defeat for the Team Cesar Gracie fighter since December 2004, ending a fifteen fight winning streak. Shields debuted with the UFC in his previous bout earning a split decision over Martin Kampmann at UFC 121. Shields stepped away from the Strikeforce middleweight title to come to the UFC, having defended the title against Dan Henderson and defeated Jason ‘Mayhem’ Miller to win the belt.
Ellenberger has won four straight and is 8-1 in his last nine bouts. He debuted with the UFC in September 2009, losing a split decision to Carlos Condit. ‘The Juggernaut’ would then go on to win four straight with the top promotion, stopping three of four opponents by (T)KO. His last bout was at the same UFC 129 event as Shields, where he stopped Canadian fighter Sean Pierson by first round knockout. Ellenberger was a late replacement for Brian Foster at the Toronto show, taking the fight with Pierson on 17 days notice.
