Lightweights Jeremy Stephens vs. Anthony Pettis Added To UFC 136

Jeremy StephensKeeping pace with the last few days, the Ultimate Fighting Championship kept up the torrent pace of bout announcements with the addition of a lightweight matchup between Jeremy ‘Lil’ Heathen’ Stephens (20-6) and Anthony ‘Showtime’ Pettis (13-2). Both men will meet this fall on the upcoming UFC 136: Edgar vs. Maynard III event.
UFC 136: Edgar vs. Maynard III, which just confirmed the main event this week, is expected to take place on October 8 at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. The main event features the back-to-back lightweight title bout between champ Frankie Edgar, and challenger, Gray Maynard.
UFC officials announced the bout on Saturday via UFC.com.
Two of the most exciting fighters in the lightweight division will face off as verbal agreements are in for Jeremy “Little Heathen” Stephens VS Anthony “Showtime” Pettis at UFC 136, UFC president Dana White confirmed today.
Stephens earned his fourth victory in five bouts, having recently earned a unanimous decision over Danny Downes in June at the “TUF 13 Finale” in Las Vegas. That was ‘Lil’ Heathen’s seventh victory in the Octagon. Stephens also stopped Marcus Davis last January with a third round knockout at UFC 125, and also lost a split decision to Melvin Guillard at UFC 119 last September.
Pettis also appeared on the “TUF 13 Finale” card, losing his UFC debut to Clay Guida by unanimous decision. The last WEC lightweight title holder had been promised a shot at the UFC belt, but with the rematch between Edgar vs. Maynard, ‘Showtime’ opted to make his debut rather than sit on the shelf. His last WEC appearance was in December at WEC 53, where he landed the memorable “Showtime Kick” against opponent Ben Henderson. Pettis would go on to win the match by unanimous decision and the WEC title.
