Beerbhom had been scheduled to face Gesias ‘JZ’ Cavalcante (15-4-1) as part of the Strikeforce and M-1 Global: Fedor vs. Henderson event but has been forced off the card due to a rib injury. Stepping in on ten days notice will be Green who meets ‘JZ’ on the untelevised prelim card.
Strikeforce officials announced the change on Wednesday evening, while MMAWeekly.com confirmed the injury to Beerbohm.
Strikeforce and M-1 Global: Fedor vs. Henderson is scheduled to take place on July 30 at the Sears Centre Arena in Hoffman Estates, Ill. The main card is set to air on Showtime, with a tape delay for the West Coast.
Green had been set to debut on Aug. 12 against Milton Vieira as part of the Strikeforce Challengers 18 show. He now enters the bout against Cavalcante on a victory, having won the undisputed KOTC lightweight title by defeating Dom O’Grady last April. ‘King’ owns seven wins by (T)KO, six by submission and two by decision over his three-and-a-half year pro career.
‘JZ’ was last in the cage in June having faced Justin Wilcox at the Overeem vs. Werdum event. The match ended in a “No Contest” after Cavalcante accidentally poked his opponent in the eye early in the second round, leaving Wilcox unable to continue. Previous to that match, Cavalcante had lost a unanimous decision to Josh Thomson last October in his Strikeforce debut. The Brazilian is 1-3 (1NC) in his last five fights.
