UFC Canada Director of Operations Tom Wright spoke in Toronto
recently during a media event for the upcoming UFC 152 event scheduled
for the city this coming September. Featured on the card is a
welterweight match between former two division champion BJ Penn and
rising star Rory MacDonald.
With no current main event booked, Wright would love to see a
MacDonald vs. Penn bout booked as a five-round non-title main event
match.
“I think it’s a great fight. Intriguing is a really good word
because you’ve got this young, really up-and-coming guy (MacDonald).
Call him up-and coming but he’s won thirteen fights and only lost once,
and that was to Carlos Condit. So I think he, certainly for us, is one
of the faces of the future and this is going to be a really big test for
him.”
