Earlier today at the StrikeForce “Fedor vs Rogers” pre-fight press conference two heavyweight attractions will be taking place this Saturday night as Fedor Emelianenko will be facing Brett Rogers in the card’s main event while another heavyweight bout will have former PRIDE and UFC veteran Fabricio Werdum taking on former EliteXC heavyweight champion Antonio ‘Bigfoot’ Silva on the live nationally televised CBS event and according to StrikeForce CEO Scott Coker the winners of their respective match-ups could in fact face one another in 2010 in their next fight.
With current StrikeForce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem returning to the promotion in the early parts of next year the winners of Saturday night’s fights could be facing each other down the line for a title eliminator fight.
“You see the matchup potential between the winner of the Silva-Werdum fight and the winner of the Fedor vs. Rogers fight, so I think it would make sense for those two to fight each other depending on how it goes,” said Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker.
However, Overeem has not defended the title since winning it in a tournament in November of 2007 when he defeated Paul Buentello and has since pulled out of two title fights against the likes of both Brett Rogers and Fabricio Werdum this past Summer due to a lingering hand injury.
Still, the heavyweight division will keep busy should Overeem not be ready once again as the winners will move on to face each other for the right to become the top contender to the championship that Alistair Overeem has yet to defend in well over two years.
Who do you see winning their respective match-ups this Saturday night at StrikeForce “Fedor vs Rogers” from the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates, Illinois?
