Gina Carano possible for December Return

Gina Carano possible for December Return

When Gina Carano was pulled from the June 18 Strikeforce fight card, the given reason was very vague, with her manager citing an “unfortunate setback” as the reason for her withdrawal from the fight. Carano had been set to face Sarah D’Alelio on the card.

Now, according to The Wrestling Observer, it looks as if Carano will make her return to the cage on the December 17 fight card that will also feature a bout between Strikeforce Lightweight Champion Gilbert Melendez and Jorge Masvidal.

Carano has been away from the cage since losing her title to Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos via first round technical knockout in August 2009. After the loss Carano took time off to film the Steven Soderbergh film, Haywire, before agreeing to the D’Alelio fight.

The last mention of Carano’s medical status was in late July when Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker spoke to Ariel Helwani about Carano saying, “She’s feeling much better and I’ve been hearing from her management that she may even go into training camp in the next ten days or so."
