UFC 135: Jones vs. Rampage will take place on September 24 at the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado. No word on which part of the card the Te-Huna vs. Romero bout will happen, but it’s a safe bet that the light heavyweight matchup will take place on the prelimnary card.
News of the announcement was made by the DailyTelegraph.com, an Australian news agency, who broke word of the matchup on Monday. They confirmed with UFC officials that verbal agreements have been made by both fighters for the September meeting.
Te-Huna will venture out of from “Down Under” for the first time for a pro-fight when he meets Romero in Denver. The Australian has always fought at home, including both of his Octagon appearances which includes a loss to Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 127, and a win in his UFC debut over Igor Pokrajac at UFC 110. Previous to the defeat by Gustafsson, the Aussy had won six straight which included winning a light heavyweight grand prix tournament for the Cage Fighting Championship promotion.
Romero finds himself with a similar record as his opponent, having lost his last bout which has put him at 1-1 in the UFC, while holding a six-fight win streak going into that defeat. The loss came in February, a first round 21 second TKO loss to Kyle Kingsbury at UFC 126. He debuted with the UFC in July of 2010, earning a second round submission win over Seth Petruzelli at UFC 116. Previous to joining the FUC, Romero had fought exclusively for the Ring of Combat promotion, having earned both the heavyweight and light heavyweight titles for the organization.
