UFC 134: Newcomers Yuri Alcantara & Antonio Carvalho Square Off In Rio

A featherweight bout appears to be set between UFC newcomers Yuri ‘Marajó’ Alcantara (24-3) and Antonio ‘The Inferno’ Carvalho (13-4) for this Augusts UFC 134: Silva vs. Okami event in Rio de Janeiro.
Sherdog.com posted the news late Wednesday night after learning of the fight from sources close to the fight. Meanwhile, Tatame.com is also reporting the same matchup but is also saying that featherweight Raphael Assuncao (16-4) will also participate on the UFC 134 card against an unknown opponent.
UFC 134: Silva vs. Okami is scheduled to take place on Aug. 27 at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The event is headlined by a UFC middleweight title bout featuring champion Anderson Silva, who looks to defend his title for a record ninth straight time.
Alcantara will be fighting in his native Brazil and carries an eleven fight win streak into his Octagon debut. ‘Marajó’ made his WEC debut last December at WEC 53, earning a first round knockout win over Ricardo Lamas at the final event for the promotion. Previous to that, Alcantara won the inaugural Jungle Fights lightweight title last September defeating two opponents in one night at a Jungle Fights 22 event.
Carvalho hails from Ontario, Canada will be a long way from home and in enemy territory when he steps into the Octagon to debut against Alcantara. ‘The Inferno’ has won three in a row and is 4-2 in his last six bouts. He won his most recent bout just last Friday night at a Score Fighting Series event in Ontario, earning a unanimous decision over one time UFC fighter Doug Evans.
If Tatame’s sources are correct, then Assuncao will make his second appearance in the Octagon, having debuted last March at UFC 128. The Brazilian, who currently fights out of Atlanta, Georgia was KO’d in the first round by Erik Koch at the New Jersey event. His record over his last four bouts is just 1-3 and carries over a record of 3-2 from the WEC. His last victory came last November at WEC 52, a unanimous decision win over LC Davis.
