MMA fans around the world seemingly felt the ground shake this past Sunday afternoon as Dana White announced that not only was Nate Marquardt out of his fight against Ricky Story, on their upcoming fight for the event 'UFC on versus 4,' but that he was releasing him from the organization altogether. Due to privacy laws in the state of Pennsylvania, the full reasoning as to why he was released has been withheld. A very animated UFC president took to the mic at the pre-fight press conference Sunday evening demanding Nate be true his fans, and release the reason why he was given his walking papers. Saying he needs to, "Man up." Early Tuesday morning, Marquardt did just that. Talking to "MMA HOUR" via mmafighting.com, Nate 'The Great' Marquardt spoke openly to try and spread some light on the situation. But the explanation delivered seemed to cause more questions, then solve answers. He explained it all under the heading "Hormone Replacement Therapy." In August 2010, Marquardt explains that he was diagnosed with low testosterone, and began therapy to help treat the problem. In March, 2011, when he fought Dan Miller in New Jersey, Maruqardt explained that the commission there allowed him to fight after filing the necessary paper work. Leading up to the fight with Story, Marquardts testosterone levels spiked, and didn't recede enough in time to be granted a licence to fight. Nate went on to say that since the incident his levels have receded, and hopes by late Tuesday the Pennsylvania Athletic Commission will lift the suspension and everything will be cleared up. If this is all true, it leads to the very obvious question, why did Dana react the way he did? Chael Sonnen is currently serving a suspension for steroid use right now. Also at UFC 73, both the main event fighters in Hermes Franca, and Sean Sherk tested positive for steroid use as well. None of the aforementioned fighters were released by the UFC as a direct cause of their substance abuse issues. When all was said and done, and everything was seemingly out on the table, many other fighters, fans, and media were left scratching their heads attempting to piece everything together. Whether or not there is some information being withheld from the public is still uncertain, but one thing is for sure, "He (Nate Marquardt) will never fight in the UFC ever again." According to UFC president Dana White.Tuesday, June 28, 2011
