Nate Marquardt Out Of Versus Event, Out Of The UFC

Former UFC middleweight contender Nate ‘The Great’ Marquardt (31-10-2) was pulled from the main event of tomorrow’s UFC on Versus 4 card at the last minute due to a medical licensing issue. He had been scheduled to fight Rick ‘Horror’ Story at the event, who now faces Charlie Brenneman on the main card.
UFC officials were quick to announce the removal of Marquardt, but UFC President Dana White followed that up by announcing that ‘The Great’ was also done in the UFC and was being released immediately.
“I’m sure you heard that Nate Marquardt is out. It’s true. He failed his medicals. Not only is he out of this fight, out of the main event on Versus, he will no longer be with the UFC.”
Marquardt was to have made his welterweight debut against Story, but now it appears he’ll have to fight at 170 lbs outside of Zuffa to do it.
Story was given Brenneman as a last-minute replacement, with the two fighting on the main card. ‘The Spaniard’ had been scheduled to fight TJ Grant, but the Canadian pulled out due to illness. Stepping into the role of the main event are heavyweights Pat Barry vs. Cheick Kongo.
No official announcement has come down from Marquardt at this time, but MMA Warlike will be sure to keep you up to date.
