Two explosive fights showcasing four of the most exciting fighters in the world
will serve as co-features for the live finale of Spike TV’s The Ultimate
Fighter®: Team Lesnar vs. Team dos Santos on Saturday, June 4 at 9 p.m. ET.
Emanating from the Pearl at The Palms Casino and Resort in Las Vegas,
lightweights Anthony “Showtime” Pettis (11-1) meets Clay Guida (28-8), while
Jeremy Stephens (19-6) takes on The Ultimate Fighter season 12 winner Jonatahan
Brookins (13-3).
Known for his frenetic pace and extraordinary
endurance, Guida, an Illinois native, enters his bout with Anthony Pettis on a
three fight win streak, all coming via submission with two of them earning him
“Submission of the Night” honors. Having firmly established himself as one of
the best lightweight fighters in the UFC®, his bout with Pettis will establish
the number one contender in the division. Guida has been involved in bouts named
“Fight of the Night” three times in his career, and his fight with Diego Sanchez
in June 2009 at The Ultimate Fighter season 9 finale was named “Fight of the
Year.”
Anthony Pettis lives and trains in Milwaukee, WI, and will be
making his debut in the UFC in his fight with Guida. Pettis tallied a 5-1 record
in the WEC and was the organization’s lightweight champion after defeating Ben
Henderson last December. He was in line to face the winner of the Gray
Maynard/Frankie Edgar bout at UFC 125, but after that fight was ruled a draw, he
instead will face Guida in what promises to be an explosive matchup given the
stakes.
Jeremy Stephens is one of the hardest hitting lightweight
fighters in the UFC, having garnered three “Knockout of the Night” bonuses in
his last eight contests, as well as a “Fight of the Night” bonus for his war
with Sam Stout at UFC 113 in May 2010 that earned him a split decision victory.
Stephens enters his bout with Jonathan Brookins coming off of a victory over
Marcus Davis at UFC 125 in January, and he looks to build a win streak to ascend
the UFC lightweight ladder.
Fighting out of Orlando, Fla., Jonathan
Brookins is familiar with the spotlight that comes with The Ultimate Fighter
finale, having defeated Michael Johnson in December 2010 to win the competition
for the show’s 12th season. Before that, he was perhaps most well known for his
bout with one of the world’s pound-for-pound best fighters in UFC featherweight
champion Jose Aldo in November 2008, to whom he lost before rattling off four
straight wins. Brookins hopes to garner a fifth consecutive win when he squares
off with Stephens.
Other bouts on the card include a bantamweight
contest between Ken Stone (9-2-0) vs. Scott Jorgensen (11-4-0), a featherweight
battle between George Roop (11-7-1) and Josh Grispi (14-2-0), and a middleweight
battle pitting Tim Credeur (12-3-0) against Ed Herman (19-7-0).
More
fights to be announced at a later date. The Ultimate Fighter®: Team Lesnar vs.
Team dos Santos premieres Wednesday, March 30 at 9:00pm ET/PT.
