A long awaited rumored bout in the welterweight division has been confirmed for UFC 109 on February 6, 2010 in Las Vegas, Nevada as former 170 pound champion Matt ‘The Terror’ Serra (9-6) says that he will be facing off against Frank ‘Twinkle Toes’ Trigg (19-7) at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in “Sin City”.
Serra confirmed the news earlier today with The Fight Network saying that he has already signed on to take the fight.
Having only fought once this year, Matt Serra was apart of the UFC 98 event this past May where he suffered a unanimous decision defeat at the hands of his former heated rival Matt Hughes in a fight where Serra feels that he won. This is his second straight loss as he was beat up by Georges St-Pierre in April of 2008 at UFC 83 to lose the welterweight title to the man that he knocked out a year prior to that at UFC 69 to shock the world.
Meanwhile Frank Trigg made his return to the Octagon for the first time in well over four years as he was apart of the UFC 103 card in Dallas, Texas where he was roughly greeted by Josh Koscheck as he knocked Trigg out in the first round. Trigg is in a win or go home situation should he lose to Serra he will likely be done with the organization where he has stated that if that was to happen then he would call it a career.
UFC 109 will be apart of the Super Bowl weekend festivities in the beginning of February, 2010 which will be brought to you live on pay-per-view.
