Heavyweight Title Bout Set For UFC 146 – Dos Santos vs. Overeem Headline





Officials with the Ultimate Fighting Championship promotion finally announced the headlining bout for UFC 146 on Memorial Day weekend, confirming a heavyweight title bout between champion ‘Cigano’ Junior dos Santos (14-1) and former Strikeforce champ, Alistair ‘The Demolition Man’ Overeem (36-11, 1NC). UFC 146: Dos Santos vs. Overeem is scheduled for May 26, 2012 and will take place in the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The biggest heavyweight fight of 2012 will land at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday, May 26th, as UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos defends his title for the first time in the main event of UFC 146 against former Strikeforce and K-1 champion Alistair Overeem. Dos Santos is coming off of knee surgery after capturing the UFC heavyweight crown last November. The Brazilian earned his ninth straight victory by stopping Cain Velasquez in 64-seconds of the first round via knockout. It was the eight victory for ‘Cigano’ in the Octagon.
Overeem debuted in the UFC last December, stopping former champ Brock Lesnar in the first round via TKO at UFC 141. The win was the Dutch fighters eight straight victory and is 11-0 (1NC) in his last twelve matches which includes capturing the inaugural Strikeforce heavyweight strap.
