Mike Swick Injures Knee, Withdraws From UFC 134 Bout Against Erick Silva

Mike SwickMike Swick’s long-awaited comeback to the Octagon will have to wait a little longer after he was forced to withdraw from his UFC 134 bout against Erick Silva due to injury. A replacement opponent for the debuting Silva will be announced shortly.
That notice was posted by UFC officials (@UFC.com) on Thursday evening further delaying the return of Mike ‘Quick’ Swick (14-4) to the Octagon. Swick hasn’t fought since UFC 109 in February of 2010 due to injuries and health issues.
An early report from Tatame.com, is naming Shooto welterweight champ Luis ‘Beição’ Ramos (19-6) as Swick’s replacement, and will now meet fellow Brazilian Erick ‘Indio’ Silva (12-1, 1NC) at the Rio event.
UFC 134: Silva vs. Okami is scheduled to take place on August 27 at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The event is headlined by a middleweight title match between champ Anderson Silva vs. Yushin Okami.
Swick had been dealing with a mis-diagnosed stomach issue forced him on a strict diet and was unable to put on weight or provide him with enough energy to train. That issue has since been rectified leaving him ready to return to the Octagon, that is until this latest knee injury.
Swick posted this message from his Twitter (@officialswick) on Thursday night.
“Yes rumors are true. I tore my knee today wrestling. Will get MRI results in am but Dr thinks torn MCL, ACL and possibly meniscus. Got my health and size back and was having best fight camp of my career then one small twist during training. Can’t catch a break sometimes. Really was excited about this fight. Don’t really have anything else to say I guess. Sorry guys thanks for the support.”
His replacement, South-American Shooto champ Luis Ramos enters the Octagon with a three fight win streak. Ramos last fight came in July at a local Brazilian event, earning a first round submission victory.
Silva also makes his UFC debut and enters the fight with a nine-fight undefeated streak, going 8-0-1. Unlike his new opponent, ‘Indio’ hasn’t seen action since last October when he won the Jungle Fight welterweight title in a four-competitor, one-night tournament.
