It shouldn’t come as a surprise, but former No. 1 lightweight contender Joe ‘Daddy’ Stevenson (31-14) has parted ways with the Ultimate Fighting Championship after suffering his fourth straight loss in June at the UFC on Versus 4 event.News of his release was posted by MMAFighting.com on Thursday evening.
Stevenson made his featherweight debut on June 26 after three straight losses fighting at lightweight. ‘Daddy’ would lose a unanimous decision to Javier Vazquez at the Versus event spelling the end of Stevenson’s sixteen fight, and five year run with the top promotion.
Overall fighting under the UFC banner between three weight divisions, beginning at welterweight and ending at featherweight, Stevensen put together a record of 8-8 over that time span. The highlight of his career came in January 2008 when he faced UFC lightweight champ BJ Penn at UFC 80. Stevenson would lose by second-round submission to the champ ending a four fight win streak for the fighter.
