Raphael Assuncao Meets Fellow Brazilian Johnny Eduardo At UFC Rio

Raphael AssuncaoOvernight, another bout was added to August’s upcoming UFC 134 event in Rio but this time the announcement was made by the promotions Brazilian Office via Twitter (@ufc_brasil).
Making his bantamweight debut will be Raphael Assunção (16-4) who meets fellow countrymen Johnny Eduardo (25-8) who is also set to make his promotional debut at the upcoming Rio event.
UFC 134: Silva vs. Okami is scheduled to take place on Aut. 27 at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The bout between Assunção vs. Eduardo will take place on the preliminary portion of the event.
Matchmakers had been working on putting together a fight between Assunção and Darren Uyenoyama, but the match fell through over issues with Uyenoyama’s contract with Shooto. Assunção made his UFC debut last March, losing in the first round by knockout to late replacement Erik Koch on the preliminary card of UFC 128. Previous to that loss Assunção was 3-2 fighting in the WEC having earned a unanimous decision over LC Davis at WEC 52 in his last cage appearance.
Eduardo is currently riding an 11-bout win streak that includes an appearance in the Bellator cage, a unanimous decision over Donald Sanchez back in April 2009. His most previous wins have come under the Shooto-Brazil banner having earned a submission win in April of this year, and a unanimous decision victory in August of last year. Eduardo holds six wins by (T)KO, thirteen by submission, and 6 by decision over his pro career.
