It appears that the UK based British Association of Mixed Martial Arts (BAMMA) promotion is looking to bring more attention to their brand of mma with news that former UFC veterans Phil “The New York Bad Ass” Baroni (14-13) and Frank “Twinkle Toes” Trigg (20-8) would be participating at the upcoming BAMMA 6 event.
News concerning the two fighters originated with MMAFighting.com of the their participation at the event, but MMAjunkie.com has confirmed that no contracts have been signed just yet. No names were given as possible opponents, only that each fighter would meet a UK based opponent.
BAMMA 6 is expected to take place on May 21 at Wembley Arena in London, England. Scheduled as the headliner for the event is a middleweight title bout promotion champ Tom “Kong” Watson and Murilo “Shogun” Rua. The main card for BAMMA’s last event was broadcast live via a $5.00 pay stream on the web at the promotions homepage.
Baroni ended a three fight losing skid by earning a unanimous decision over Nick Nolte in his Titan Fighting Championship debut last Friday night in the co-main event of Titan FC 17 in Kansas City. Baroni looked gassed into the second but managed to still earn the judges decision in the fight. MMAjunkie.com noted that “The New York Bad Ass’” participation at the BAMMA show is still far from assured.
Trigg, meanwhile, also ended a losing skid with a victory in his last fight. The HDNet announcer stopped Israeli fighter Roy Neeman by TKO last November at a Israel FC: Genesis event in Tel Aviv. It was his first fight since his dismissal from the UFC after dropping two straight bouts by first round TKO to Matt Serra, at UFC 109, and to Josh Koscheck at UFC 103.
