It appears that what started as a hypothetical scenario, in which Rashad Evans would challenge Jon "Bones" Jones for the Light Heavyweight title, has become a bit more complicated. As close friends and training partners at Jackson's MMA in Albuquerque, New Mexico, both Jones and Evans had previously sworn to never fight one another, no matter what the circumstance. However, after a knee injury forced Evans out of his long awaited title fight with division champ Mauricio "Shogun" Rua at UFC 128, it was Jones who was called in as a replacement, making it entirely possible that their paths could cross in the near future. In the weeks that have followed, both fighters appear to have reconsidered their "no fighting friends" policy, as each has gone on the record stating that they would, in fact, be open to the match-up if necessary. Though head coach of Jackson's MMA, Greg Jackson, has stated a preference to have no involvement in the potential bout, it appears that Evans is now giving him an ultimatum.
For the time being, however, Jones must first dethrone "Shogun" Rua at this Saturday's UFC 128. The Light Heavyweight title clash will headline the stacked card from the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, while top Bantamweight contenders Urijah Faber and Eddie Wineland will go head to head in the co-main event.
