Kevin Randleman Taking His Time Returning To The Cage

Kevin_RandlemanFormer UFC heavyweight champion Kevin “The Monster” Randleman (17-15) has been taking his time recovering from injury, having had “over a dozen surgeries in five years” has kept the fighter out of the cage or fighting injured.
Now “The Monster” is back training helping his fellow teammates prepare for their fights, while slowly getting back to 100%. He still has the hunger to fight but knows that fighting injured has done him more harm than good in the past.
Randleman, who is 2-8 in his last ten fights, is on a three fight losing skid having last fought at in May of 2010 against Roger Gracie at Strikeforce: Heavy Artillery. He’d lose to Gracie by rear-naked choke submission. The other loses were to Stanislav Nedkov at Sengoku 11 and Mike Whitehead at Strikeforce: Lawler vs. Shields, both by unanimous decision.
Randleman spoke about his recovery and his hopeful return to MMAFighting.com recently.
“Any fighter will tell you that the hardest thing to do is wait to heal but I have learned my lesson — the hard way unfortunately — and I did way more harm than good for myself pushing too much too soon. I also realized that when I would get in the cage that getting hurt was something that was always in the back of my mind because I knew I wasn’t 100 percent. I just tried to talk myself into it — because I wanted to fight so bad. There are some options on the table, which I feel very lucky to have, but I am not rushing. I started training solid after the new year and I will continue to train as if I had a fight In March or April so that once I lock something in I will already be primed and ready for a solid camp…Although I have broadened my training, being consistent in my training is what has helped me find my way back to my roots. I am a striker and a wrestler and that will be my game plan no matter who I am fighting.”
