A pair of heavyweights likely fighting for their octagon careers will face off at "UFC 127: Penn vs. Fitch."
UFC executives recently announced that Mark Hunt (5-7 MMA, 0-1 UFC) meets Chris Tuchscherer (21-3 MMA, 1-2 UFC) on the UFC 127 preliminary card.
Featuring a main event between MMA legend B.J. Penn and perennial top contender Jon Fitch, UFC 127 takes place Feb. 27 at Acer Arena in Sydney, Australia.
An eight-time PRIDE veteran and former super heavyweight, Hunt plays a home game of sorts as the "Super Samoan" hails from New Zealand.
Hunt was a surprise signing for the UFC when he made his debut for the world's largest mixed martial arts promotion in September. UFC president Dana White later explained that Hunt was brought in – despite a five-fight losing streak that dated back to 2006 – due to contractual obligations in place since the days the UFC purchased PRIDE.
Hunt was defeated in 63 seconds be fellow UFC newcomer Sean McCorkle.
Meanwhile, Tuchscherer fights for the fourth time under the UFC banner. The North Dakota native and Brock Lesnar training partner had an infamous debut after being drilled in the groin by Gabriel Gonzaga. After writhing in pain, Tuchscherer elected to continue but was defeated by first-round TKO.
"The Crowbar" returned with a majority decision win over Tim Hague this past February, but he was stopped short of establishing a win streak by streaking heavyweight prospect Brendan Schaub, who defeated Tuchscherer via 67-second TKO this past July.
With the addition, the complete UFC 127 lineup now includes:
