Edwards vs. McKenzie official; UFC Fight Night 23 complete with 11 bouts

The McKenzietine meets Thugjitsu.

UFC brass today officially announced that replacement Cody McKenzie (12-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC) meets Yves Edwards (38-16-1 MMA, 6-4 UFC) at "UFC Fight Night 23: Fight for the Troops 2."

The matchup, which was previously reported by MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com), was created when Edwards' original opponent, Melvin Guillard, was pulled in favor of a main-event slot against Evan Dunham.

UFC Fight Night 23 takes place Jan. 22 at Fort Hood in Killeen, Tex., and airs live on Spike TV.

Edwards, a longtime member of American Top Team and self-proclaimed "Thugjitsu Master," in September returned to the UFC after a four-plus year absence and bested John Gunderson on points at UFC Fight Night 22. He's now won five of his past six overall fights, which included wins in Bellator and Shine Fights.

McKenzie, meanwhile, will be back in camp in short time after his first appearance following his stint on "The Ultimate Fighter 12," where he made it to the quarterfinals of the reality-show tournament before being eliminated by Nam Phan. At the show's live finale, McKenzie submitted castmate Aaron Wilkinson with his trademark guillotine choke, the "McKenzietine," and claimed the evening's "Submission of the Night."
