Alistair Overeem is the new K-1 World Grand-Prix Champion!!!

Strikeforce Heavyweight Champion Alistair Overeem made the unbelievable, by capturing the K-1 World Grand-Prix Title, beating Tyrone Spong, Gokhan Saki and Peter Aerts in the final. Overeem is the first MMA fighter to capture the most prestigious title in the world of Kickboxing, not speaking about it being his only second year in the competition.

Overeem started his way against the more experienced Tyrone Spong, who gave the Demolition Man a very tough three-round battle. Overeem lost the first round against Spong, but managed to capitalize and outpoint the Surinamese striker in Round 2 and 3. In the Semi-final, Alistair Overeem faced the fellow Team Golden Glory member Gokhan Saki. The Reem unleashed hard kicks to Saki's body, breaking the Turk's arm and elbow, advancing to the final of the competition.

In the final, Overeem squared off against the Dutch Lumberjack Peter Aerts. The veteran was reported to be injured (right eye cut), with Semmy Schilt being a potential replacement, but still made his way to the final showdown against the Demolition Man. Alistair Overeem made a quick work of Peter Aerts, knocking down the legend with punches and knees early in Round 1. And with all his heart, Aerts couldn't get up after a 10 cound, as Alistair Overeem was crowned the new K-1 WGP Champion.

Overeem's dreams come true, as it surely the biggest, the most valuable, and the most important achievement in his career. There's no room for debate. Alistair Overeem done what many people thought was impossible. It's a huge victory for MMA in general, and Strikeforce in praticular. Alistair Overeem will now concentrate on his Strikeforce Heavyweight title defense, with Fabricio Werdum, Fedor Emelianenko and Antonio Silva as potential opponents. This way or another, "The Reem has done it!".
